Magnaflux Magnetic Field Indicators, also known as gauss meters or magnetometers, are used to check residual magnetism after magnetic particle testing. They read the amount of residual magnetism left in a part quickly when the indicator arrow is placed against a magnetised part.

These rugged, pocket-size calibrated indicators are available in 10 gauss and 20 gauss models. Certification is provided with each, and they can be re-calibrated through Magnaflux Authorised Service Centres.

  • Rugged, pocket-size design
  • Calibrated, with certification provided
  • Centre-zero scale shows magnetic polarity: plus (+) for a North pole, minus (−) for a South pole
  • Can be re-calibrated through Magnaflux Authorised Service Centres

Part Number 505056 105645
Scale Range +10 to −10 gauss from 0 centre +20 to −20 gauss from 0 centre
Large Divisions 1 gauss 2 gauss
Small Divisions ½ gauss 1 gauss
Accuracy ±0.5 gauss ±1.0 gauss
Field Exposure — Withstands fields as strong as 400 oersteds without affecting calibration
Certification Provided Provided
Re-calibration Every 6 months Every 6 months
Standards Compliance ASTM E709, ASTM E1444, ASME BPVC Section V ASTM E709, ASTM E1444, ASME BPVC Section V
NDT Method Fluorescent and visible magnetic particle testing
Use Checking residual magnetism remaining in a part after magnetisation
20 Gauss Model General purpose use as may be required in various demagnetisation specifications
Placement Place the lower rim of the indicator, below the arrow, closest to the part. It is the most sensitive part of the meter. Place it near a point of flux leakage, such as the end of a bar-shaped part
Readings Readings in gauss relate only to the magnitude of external leakage fields and should not be taken as the flux density within the part
Caution A strong enough field may throw the indicator considerably off scale. Contact with the field of a demagnetising coil, or a conductor carrying heavy alternating current, may demagnetise the indicator
