Asphalt Testing Equipment

Asphalt and bitumen testing equipment for New Zealand roading laboratories and surfacing contractors. The range covers binder consistency, binder content and aggregate durability - the properties that determine whether a mix performs over its design life. 

Binder consistency is characterised by penetration and softening point. The QualiPen-1000Auto automatic penetrometer handles penetration testing, and our ring and ball apparatus covers softening point across three specification levels - the QualiARBT I, QualiARBT II and QualiARBT III, which differ in automation rather than in the test itself. 

Binder content is determined by solvent extraction, and our asphalt centrifuge extractor handles 3000 gram samples. Recovered aggregate is then oven dried and graded, which brings in laboratory drying ovens and sieve shakers. 

Aggregate durability is assessed with the Los Angeles abrasion machine, run with a specified charge of steel balls that wear over time and need periodic replacement. Surface performance is measured with the skid resistance and friction tester.
